IUI - Take 2

Well those little ovaries finally listened to my plea. They cooperated and when I went in Saturday they were just about ready. I triggered last night and am taking it easy now as I had my IUI this morning. Great numbers and my nurse that I love was able to do the IUI for me! We has a good old laugh while my legs were in the stirrups at how once you enter the world of IF nothing is private anymore.

It can take a bit to get used to the idea that you are making a baby with so many other people and factors involved and not in the privacy of your own bedroom. That worry has been out of my head for years, but as I sat in the waiting room I continued to be amazed at the amount of women going down this same road. The emotional marathon where you and your husband aren't the only runners. Doctors, nurses, phlebotimists, ultrasound techs, embryologists....it's dizzying to even think how many people it takes. I sat for over an hour waiting for the sperm to be prepared and I would guess at least 75 women walked in for different appts in those 60 minutes. It floors me. New patients coming in with their heads down, totally unaware of the roller coaster they are about to get on. Older IF veterans on a mission with their arms full of band-aids and scars from years of bloodwork. It's seriously a revolving door of couples all leaving their comfort zones to get the ultimate prize.

My not so private moment this week? When my nurse asked me Saturday "when the last time I cleaned my husbands tubes out"...in front of my Mother. Not much embarrasses me when it comes to this stuff but holy smokes I almost died. We have had a good laugh about it...I just have to keep my eye on the prize.

Now come on swimmers, find that egg!

  1. Gosh I vividly remember our first appointment with RE. I couldn't figure out why so many couples in there looked depressed. Then you start treatment and complete y understand. Good luck on your tww!

  3. Oh my, that made even me blush just reading it! I would have been pretty mortified about that one too! Glad to hear your procedure went well though. I'm wishing nothing but the very best outcome for you from this!!

  4. Haha that is so funny! I am always wondering about other people and there stories when I am sitting at the waiting room at my RE's office. It is incredble (not in a good way) how many people fight this battle. Good luck to you! Sending you lots of positive vibes!!

  5. You described the waiting room so perfectly. I remember when I first sought treatment thinking, Okay, this time next year I will be holding a baby in my arms. 11 years ago. Not everyone is that extreme of course, but wow that brought back memories. Now I am one of those with all of the band-aids and scar tissue.

But more importantly than all of that...way to go ovaries!!! Hoping those swimmers get the job done! :) Hugs!

  6. Yay! As hard as it is to wrap your head around having so many people involved in making a baby, at the same time it's comforting to know all those people are on your side rooting for you. Good luck!

  7. We didn't have quite as many ppl involved since we did IUI, but b/c we used a frozen sample (my hubby was working out of state at the time) there were still quite a few, and I agree - it was VERY weird to think about. 100% worth it though!!

    1. Wait, you did IUI as well, *DOH* Sorry, it's been one of those Monday. But yes, very weird.

Good that your MIL had a good sense of humor about it all. :)

    2. Is this Stella at the computer again? Or josey? Haha. My REs office is big, and I can't even count how many people have been involved since I started years ago!

  8. Everything you just said is so true which is why it's so crazy that it's still a big secret, something no one can talk about it. Hopefully that changes soon. Glad your ovaries were listening and hoping this cycle works!!!

  10. I hope a little zygote is making its way to your uterus right now! OMG, I can't believe the nurse asked you about sex in front of your mom. SO embarassing! But funny. Glad you were able to find humorous moments at such a stressful time.

Yeah, it is crazy how many people are involved once you're doing treatments. Even the women at the front desk are helping you hopefully achieve your goals--it takes an army!

  12. At our very first IUI in 2002, We were in the office and I was in the position. Dr. about to do the deed...and my husband's boss called. Now, keep in mind, he's in the military, so when the boss calls on your scheduled day off, it's probably pretty important...so I told him to answer it. And there, he talked to his boss, as nonchalantly as he could, while my dr. socked it to me.

And yes, the laugh factor was huge and totally glossed over any modesty issues, ha ha!

Hoping and praying your 2ww goes SUPER fast and that prize at the end is a wonderful, happy and healthy full-term pregnancy with a wiggly little bundle brought home to be yours forever!!!

Lots of good thoughts being sent from here!

  13. Wow, that's a quick IUI! Our clinic does 36-hrs between trigger and IUI, but to be fair, they didn't get me pregnant that way either :)

My mom and DH both came to my egg retrieval, and had that awkward moment when DH gets called back to give his "sample", then walks back out with them both full knowing what just went down. Good times!
